Hands on junior grower

Country Herbs and Plants is a long-established horticultural business supplying Herbs and Plants to Garden Centres across the UK.

Set on a 7 acre (2.8 Hectare) site, comprising of glasshouses, Polytunnels and outdoor growing areas, we are recruiting an experienced person that wants to grow into the business, with excellent communication skills, able to work alone and within a small team. Willing to do overtime and weekend work during the busy periods.

Tasks would be very varied, as you would expect on a busy family ran Nursery, with daily multi-tasking, a hands-on approach and communication with the Nursery Manager, Directors and production staff which would include:

  • Crop walking – Monitoring plant health, pests and disease and spotting any issues early
  • Automatic Irrigation/Hand watering – having a good knowledge of what the plant needs and when, then applying the relevant irrigation
  • Feed tank mixes – mixing a refilling as required
  • Potting machine knowledge – Javo or similar
  • Transplanting machine knowledge – TTA or similar
  • Sowing line knowledge – Urbinati or similar
  • Propagation knowledge – we do a lot of our own seed and cutting grown products
  • Trimming of young plants
  • Forklift duties – License desirable
  • Loading and unloading of deliveries and collections, communication with customers
  • PA1 and PA6 – Desirable

This is a business where everyone is hands on. The nursery owner, Directors and managers are daily getting involved with all aspects of the business and we would want this person to be able to do the same, with a hands-on approach.

Please only apply if you have some previous horticultural experience and have a basic knowledge of many of the tasks listed above. The right candidate will be trained if they don’t have experience in some areas:

  • Organised, approachable and calm under pressure.
  • Team player, who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves
  • Clear communicator
  • Ability to juggle tasks and make decisions on the go
  • Eye for detail, quality and a strong work ethic.

Seasonal work February 2026 onwards

From February through to September we have seasonal work available.  Full time hours preferred, 7:30am to 4pm (some days to 5 or 6pm) occasional Saturday mornings.  We can offer some positions with flexibility to suit Mums with school hours.

We’ve found this role popular with students who have perhaps taken a year out or are awaiting to start a course.

You will join a friendly team in an active and physical job which will include, lifting, bending, carrying plant trays, and pulling trolleys.

The work is mainly in a glasshouse with some outside work.

No experience required, just a wiliness to learn and work as part of a team.
